Scientific Name: Apuleia Leiocarpa
Garapa is lemon‐yellow becoming light (honey) brown with age. Garapa has a slight ribbon‐like aspect—watery, wavelike—a silky appearance. Garapa is naturally resistant to wood decay and insect damage. It also has a class “A” fire rating—identical to concrete. Garapa is naturally scratch resistant and has an estimated useful life of 25 years. Deck oil preservation treatments will add additional years to the life of this very durable wood decking. Garapa is comparable to Ipe in durability, grain, and workability, but it is an economical buy. Finishing this fine Garapa decking with brown‐tinted oil provides a soft brown finish similar to Ipe without the board‐to-board color variations.
