Scientific name: Dipteryx Odorata
The sapwood of Red Cumaru is very similar to the heartwood, ranging from red‐brown to deep red in color. Over time the red Cumaru tones will “flatten out” slightly. The species has an irregular, slightly interlocked grain and is coarse and wavy in texture. This dense, attractive Brazilian hardwood shares many characteristics with Ipe, but Cumaru has no olive‐green hues. Cumaru is sometimes referred to as Brazilian Teak or Southern Chestnut.
